Floating IP is a public IPv4 address that can be instantly moved from one server to another within the same region.
What is a Floating IP address?
Floating IP is a public IP address that can be instantly moved from one server to another within a Project and in the same region. When attached, the address is dedicated to a specific server, until you unassign it.
You may create and manage Floating IP addresses through your Client Portal or Cherry Servers API.
How does a Floating IP address work?
After you create a Floating IP address and assign it to your server, you may start receiving public traffic to this IP address being routed to a selected server. As illustrated below, when you receive a packet to your Floating IP address (203.0.113.50), the router automatically passes it forward to the server to which your Floating IP is attached (198.51.100.10).
Floating IP address is configured automatically upon server deployment, or server rebuild. If you add Floating IP address to a live server, you need to configure it manually or initiate server rebuild action through Client Portal.
Present Limitations
There is a maximum amount of Floating IP addresses you can have, which is 4 Floating IPs per server within your Team. For instance, if you have 5 servers in a Team, you can order up to 20 Floating IP address. In case you need more than that, you should order an IP Subnet range.
